Pracownicy UŁ docenieni za działania na rzecz rozwoju Łodzi w 2023 roku

Throughout 2023, the Izrael Poznański Palace hosted award galas during which medals for activities for the development of Lodz, awarded on the occasion of the city's 600th anniversary were presented. Candidates for the award were nominated by the inhabitants of Lodz, and the jubilee medals were awarded by a special jury appointed for this purpose. During the ceremony, a total of 600 people who made outstanding contribution to the city, including 34 people associated with the University of Lodz, were awarded.

Employees of the University of Lodz and people associated with our university honoured with the Medals of the 600th Anniversary of Lodz include:

  • Dr hab. Bogdan Banasiak, Associate Professor (Faculty of Philosophy and History) – for many years of scientific and teaching achievements in the field of philosophy;
  • Dr Rafał Bazaniak (School of Polish Language for Foreign Students of the University of Lodz) – for his contribution to research on the history of Lodz;
  • Dr Marcin Bogusławski (Faculty of Philosophy and History) – for scientific activity and promotion of philosophy, culture and art among the inhabitants of Lodz, especially among young people;
  • Dr Ewa Boryczka (Faculty of Economics and Sociology) – for scientific activities that help improve Lodz and revitalize it more wisely;
  • Dr Anna Ciarkowska (Faculty of Philology) – for her literary works and great love for the architecture of Lodz;
  • Prof. Dr hab. Jolanta Daszyńska (Faculty of Philosophy and History) – for many years of academic work, as well as for her enormous effort in the field of historical reconstruction, with particular emphasis on the Battle of Lodz;
  • Dr Justyna Groblińska (Faculty of Philology) – for her enormous achievements in the field of humanities, including the work "Nieoficjalne nazewnictwo miejskie Łodzi. Słownik”;
  • Dr hab. Tomasz Janiszewski (Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection) – for many years of education in the field of ornithology and contribution to Polish science;
  • Prof. Dr hab. Jerzy Jarniewicz (Faculty of Philology) – for scientific achievements at the University of Lodz, great poetic work and popularisation of the extraordinary art of literary translation;
  • Dr hab. Tomasz Jurczak, Associate Professor (Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection) – for academic work and enormous effort to improve the quality of Lodz's water reservoirs and for social and ecological activities thanks to which Łódź is developing better environmental standards;
  • Dr hab. Wioletta Kazimierska-Jerzyk (Faculty of Philosophy and History) – for scientific achievements in the field of philosophy and aesthetics and for activities within the Urban Forms Foundation;
  • Prof. Dr hab. Jarosław Kita (Faculty of Philosophy and History) – for many years of scientific achievements, including the project of the first complete monograph of Lodz for the 600th anniversary of the city;
  • Dr Karolina Kołodziej (Faculty of Philology) – for many years of academic work at the University of Lodz and for literary work that helps, among other things, the youngest inhabitants of Lodz discover their city;
  • Alicja Korytkowska (University of the Third Age in Lodz) – for many years of work and contribution to the University of Lodz and for creating and running one of the best universities of the 3rd century in Poland;
  • Dr Małgorzata Kostrzyńska (Faculty of Educational Sciences) – for working for those most in need – a lamp of education that is the light at the end of the tunnel for many;
  • Dr hab. Jakub Kronenberg, Associate Professor (Faculty of Economics and Sociology) – for many years of excellent academic work and scientific contribution to the development of the city, especially its green areas;
  • Dr Lech Leszczyński (Faculty of Chemistry) – for many years of services to Lodz sport, in particular Lodz athletics, and for promoting Academic Lodz;
  • mgr inż. Błażej Marciniak (Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection) – for his contribution to the development of Polish science as a researcher at Biobank Łódź and for numerous activities promoting science, also among the youngest inhabitants of the city;
  • Prof. Dr hab. Tadeusz Markowski (Faculty of Management) – for many years of scientific career in the field of economics and urban planning, which was also beneficial for the City of Lodz;
  • Dr hab. Marek Matejun (Faculty of Management) – for scientific activity in the field of management sciences and for many years of teaching work at the Lodz University of Technology;
  • Dr hab. Aleksandra Nowakowska, Associate Professor (Faculty of Economics and Sociology) – for her enormous achievements in the area of spatial management and city management, which Lodz can also benefit from;
  • Maria Nowakowska (University of Lodz Doctoral School of Humanities) – for promoting the heritage and history of Lodz, in particular its architecture;
  • Prof. Dr hab. Włodzimierz Nykiel (Faculty of Law and Administration) – for the mission of developing the University of Lodz and the huge contribution to building Polish law, especially tax law;
  • Prof. Dr hab. Wiesław Puś (Faculty of Philosophy and History) – for scientific achievements in the field of history and for his contribution to the expansion of the University of Lodz as its Rector;
  • Prof. Dr hab. Zygfryd Rymaszewski (Faculty of Law and Administration) – for great contribution to the development of Polish law and contribution to the development of the University of Lodz, especially the current Faculty of Law and Administration;
  • Dr Agnieszka Rzeńca (Faculty of Economics and Sociology) – for academic activities and for combining scientific potential with supporting the development of cities, which Lodz also had the opportunity to benefit from;
  • Prof. Dr hab. Krzysztof Skotnicki (Faculty of Law and Administration) – for his huge contribution to the development of constitutional law in Poland and for many years of building good Polish-Czech relations;
  • Prof. Dr hab. Krzysztof Stefański (Faculty of Philosophy and History) – for many years of scientific activity at the University of Lodz in the field of art history and consistent popularisation of art history among the city residents and visitors;
  • Dr Mateusz Szurek (Faculty of Philology) – for scientific activities, in particular for work on behalf of the inhabitants of Łódź, people with speech, voice and communication disorders – children and adults;
  • Dr Marcin Szymański (Faculty of Philosophy and History) – for combining the historian's scientific activity with popularisation of the history of our city among the inhabitants of Lodz and people from outside the city;
  • Dr Maciej Świerkocki (winner of the 1st Rector of the University of Lodz Prof. Tadeusz Kotarbiński Award 2023) – for the new translation of "Ulysses", which opened this legendary book to subsequent generations of readers;
  • Prof. Dr hab. Przemysław Waingertner (Faculty of Philosophy and History) – for many years of scientific activity and extraordinary talent for passing historical knowledge on to all interested parties in a simple and attractive way;
  • Dr hab. Monika Wiśniewska-Kin (Faculty of Educational Sciences) – for scientific achievements in the field of pedagogy, especially child pedagogy and the development of innovative methods of teaching the youngest children;
  • Prof. Dr hab. Anna Wyrozumska (Faculty of Law and Administration) – for scientific achievements in the field of law, in particular international law, and for many years of teaching work at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Lodz.

The medals presentation was held as part of the festive celebrations of the 600th anniversary of the city of Lodz. The initiative was to acknowledge the hard, selfless and sometimes invisible in the media work of the awardees. The justification for the nomination indicated that the medals are a form of thanks "for commitment and passion, which is work and work which is passion".
